Workshop At The Higgins

About This Reduction Linocut Print Workshop

In this step-by-step workshop, you will make a multi colour reduction linocut print. It’s a destructive but exciting method of printing! You will be given an owl template to embellish, carve and print yourself. It’s fascinating seeing these prints develop in depth and intricacy during the reduction printing process. Discover the technique for creating a multi-colour print with only a single piece of lino.

Is It Right For Me?

This is a fun but, highly focused session as we are time limited. It is preferable that you have at least tried linocutting once or twice before. We will not be learning about how to turn your own designs into a multilayered print. We’ll be purely focusing on the reduction process and experimenting with mark making using the owl template (see below).

The owl template has lots of space for patterns
Take some time to embellish your owl
Have fun experimenting with different patterns and textures to decorate your owl

What You Will Learn

You will learn how to create a registration board for reduction printing, which helps keep each layer aligned. You’ll discover how to prepare paper and try out different ways to make marks and print. I’ll guide you on how to make a series of prints, and you’ll learn how to keep practicing at home.

What You Will Take Home

At the end of the workshop you will take home your own limited edition 10cmx15cm owl reduction print and the confidence to continue reduction linocut printing at home.

You can do reduction printing at home without expensive studio equipment
